This Agate is said to have been formed when volcanoes in the Yellowstone Park area erupted, leaving behind silica-rich volcanic ash. That ash, mixed with rain, settled in cavities left by dead foliage. As the water evaporated, the silica layers crystallized, forming Montana agate.
